Our first exhibition was held at Dacre Hall, Lanercost Priory and was a huge success!

There were 773 visitors and 84 rugs were shown made by 34 different makers and designers.
People attended from all walks of life, from the old makers in their 80’s and 90’s to tiny babies. Tourists in region who visited came from all over the world – North America, South America, Australia and many other countries.
Locals came and shared rugs too – during the exhibition 8 rugs were added to the exhibition.
The noticeboard was well used – we have yet to collect together all the stories from there, together with those told by visitors to the stewards at the desk, including the story of a local man who designed and made rugs in collaboration with women from Africa and one lady who told us that she remembered the day the King had died because she had skived off school to make a rug. We also put people in touch with a volunteer from the Oral History Society and hope they will share stories with her in due course.
